This image represents when Santiago meets an Englishman and they both decide to go with the caravan to cross the desert because Santiago needed to go to Egypt and the Englishman needed to find an alchemist. During their travels through the desert they stuggled to stay sane because the desert can play tricks on the mind. The picture also represents leadership through the leader of the caravan taking control of his responsibility to keep these people alive and get them safe to wherever they need to go.
